The durable Loquat tree has many attributes. Not only will it will grow into a handsome small evergreen shade tree, it is great to grow on the beach because of its high salt tolerance. The Loquat also produces delicious clusters of small orange melon-like fruit winter through spring. The fruit is best eaten fresh. It is also excellent for fish dishes and is often called the Japanese Plum. We offer the variety 'Oliver', which is considered the best variety for Florida in-ground growing. It is extremely tolerant of salt and cold with very sweet fruits to 1 1/2 inches. They are self fertile and can be grown in containers. Will reach 15-18 feet in the ground and nearly 8 feet potted. A handsome, upright tree with very dark green leaves.
