The Pony-Tail is one of Florida`s most dramatic plants because of its greatly swollen trunk base and the re-curving, narrow leaves draping from the top. They are members of Aloe in the Lily family, and not a palm at all like many people believe. They can reach heights of 15 feet, but it might take 25 years, or more to do it. They prefer sandy soils and full sun. Soils must be very well drained or they will rot. They grow perfectly well in containers and are recommended as such. They can live 15-25 years in containers and rarely need to be repotted.
