Robinson is a hybrid of Clementine Mandarin and Orlando Tangelo {(Citrus paradisi (Duncan Grapefruit) x Citrus reticulata (Dancy Tangerine)}that was released by the USDA in 1959. Fruits ripen from October to December. It is a very important, early, commercial crop in Florida. It is the earliest mandarin packed in our state. Fruit taste is excellent. Robinson has deeply colored flesh, and a thin peel. Fruit size is small to medium during alternate years. The tree is moderately freeze hardy and is suitable for planting in cold areas. Seed amounts vary per fruit, though generally 10-20 seeds. Robinson is a wonderful early season fruit. Trees reach a height of about 20 feet in as many years. Can be container grown and will reach a height of about 6-8 feet in several years.
