One of the most popular dooryard and commercial Grapefruit crop in Florida is the Ruby Red Grapefruit. We offer this dwarf tree, grafted onto Flying Dragon dwarfing rootstock (Poncirus trifoliata) syn. (Citrus trifoliate). Even though the tree will grow bushy and small in stature (to 10 feet), it will produce an abundance of full-sized, sweet, juicy fruits. Ruby Red is excellent for container growing. Ruby Red was first introduced in commercially in 1934 as a true Red, seedless fruit from McAllen Texas. It was originally a seedling of Pink Marsh, planted in 1926 by A. E. Henninger. When the seedling tree 1st fruited in 1929, one branch produced red fruits instead of pink. This cultivar is often referred to as "Redblush" in Texas. It is a consistent, prolific bearer in Florida. The seedless, juicy fruits are red pulped, very large and are of excellent quality. The Ruby Reds are self-fertile and the fruit ripens November through May. The trees can withstand temperatures down to 27 degrees. Trees will usually not exceed 6 feet when potted.
